The translation of the Holy House with Saint Charles Borromeo and Saint Martyr
By an unknown author from the mid '600, the painting represents the Virgin and the Child supported by four angels and assisted by six cherubim during the Holy House translation. At the bottom right Saint Charles Borromeo kneeling and on the left an unidentified Saint Martyr and two angels holding the stole and the palm of martyrdom. In the background a landscape with two churches and a castle standing out majestically on the horizon. In a pyramidal composition, the canvas follows a classic Baroque painting scheme, which is often found in Laurentian iconography and intersects with a circular element composed of Angels and Cherubim. The work, executed with quite intense colors and pervaded by Venetian reminiscences has an iconography whose pictorial language is consistent with the Mannerist and Baroque construction schemes. Ordered by the ecclesiastical benefit of Saint Mary in Loreto, active in Polverigi between 1600 and 1700, it comes from the demolished old parish church.
