Translation of the Holy House
The work looks like a great votive offering and is a kind of visual narration telling the arrival of the sacred convoy on the hill of Loreto just beyond the Adriatic coast. The iconography depicts Our Lady and the Child during the translation of the Holy House supported by angels and assisted by cherubim while on the shore some people busy in daily activities greet and watch amazed the strange transport interrupting their occupations. The painting is by an unknown author of the late '700 early '800 who used a very modest technique following, perhaps unconsciously, the pre-Romantic principles that were spreading out in the culture of the time and which can be seen in the rapid brushstroke and the color applied according to the characteristics of the period.
