Ex Santa Lucia

Ex Santa LuciaThe canvas was initially attributed to Francesco Podesti, but during restoration work, it emerged instead that some parts of the painting, particularly the chalice containing the Saint's eyes, were made after the creation of the original, thus characterizing the painting as a representation of St. Lucy. Having restored the original painting, it turned out that the work is attributable to the painter PietroGagliardi, who was born in Rome in 1809. He was an artist who worked mainly in Rome, frescoing the noble palaces and churches in the capital, such as that of St. Jerome of the Croats, known as "Degli Schiavoni." In the second half of the IXX century, he established himself as a talented painter of sacred paintings, as well as of historical and mythological ones. Further research work will be needed to give the painted Saint a name. Restoration of the work was possible thanks to the contribution of Banca Di Ancona.
