The Last Supper

Ultima CenaWork dated 1644, it's a very original "Last Supper" for its composition, perspective cut and realism of the characters. The subject, almost always developed according to the classical central composition, in this case it is proposed, even if with a few uncertainties, according to some of the Venetian style painting artistic standards of the late '500, which most probably the author knew.
The canvas represents an original spatial research, rarely used by minor authors, which is based on a highly raised point of view, on colors full of energy and on a transversal perspective used in particular by Tintoretto, showing an unusual expressive processing in the Marche. The scene takes place in a rich and bright architectural environment, open on a hilly landscape. Gathered in groups, the apostles are focused on commenting the revelations Jesus made during the supper, while Jesus is giving Judas, who stands before him, a piece of bread. It's a is very eventful episode: Jesus holds the young Saint John close to him, the apostles discuss and one of them talks to a servant holding a jug. On the lower part of the painting, there are amphora and dishes reminiscent of Rosselli’ s work in the Sistine Chapel, a dog symbol of fidelity and a cat representing distrust.
